HOP at a glance
HOP is about building relationships with parents, teachers, carers and other child-centered nonprofits. It’s about supporting them in their role of educating the children in their care. Through ongoing visits and establishing connections HOP identifies needs that can be met with community based support. We also hope to encourage using what’s already in the hands of those who care. It takes a village to raise a child and a community to support their education. They are, after all, OUR pre-schoolers.

George Hospital Children's Ward visits
Help Our Pre-schoolers is incredibly grateful for our dedicated volunteers who bring joy, comfort, and companionship to the children in long-term care at George Regional Hospital. Every week, these wonderful individuals give their time and love by visiting the paediatric ward, where they play, read stories, and engage with the little ones who are often confined to their hospital beds for extended periods.
For many of these children, a visit from our volunteers is the highlight of their day. It’s a chance to laugh, play, and momentarily forget about treatments or discomfort. Whether it’s building puzzles, painting pictures, or simply sharing a smile, these moments are precious — not just for the kids, but for all of us involved.
Milestones, Developmental Pre-school, Bethesda
Every Tuesday, in partnership with George Methodist Children’s Church, we have the joy and privilege of visiting the incredible little ones at Milestones Pre-school. This special school supports children with developmental delays, often caused by medical conditions or extended hospital stays — and it’s a place filled with resilience, love, and potential.
Together, we bring themed, interactive lessons designed to nurture learning and spark curiosity. From storytelling and song to movement, arts and crafts, and imaginative play, each activity is tailored to promote developmental growth in a fun, engaging way. Of course, no visit would be complete without plenty of hugs, cuddles, and heartfelt connections.
Homework help
Every Thursday, Help Our Pre-schoolers visits a beautiful little foster-care home, where we spend meaningful time helping the children with their homework. These moments are about more than just schoolwork — they’re about building trust, offering encouragement, and creating a supportive environment where each child feels seen and valued.
Whether it’s helping them sound out new words, work through tricky sums, or simply being a patient and kind presence, we aim to nurture not just their minds, but also their hearts. Our time together often turns into laughter, learning, and a sense of accomplishment that stays with them (and us!) long after the books are packed away.
We also make it a priority to celebrate each child on their birthday and during special moments throughout the year. Through heartfelt cards, small gifts, and extra love, we remind them that they are special, loved, and never forgotten.
